The research line provides for activities that aim at developing systems for stationary and mobile applications, which integrate the technologies developed at the institute and also the renewable energy sources with one another and with existed technologies. The activities encompass modelling, prototyping, demonstration projects design and creation, development and characterisation of systems together with design and characterisation of products for the market in collaboration with companies.
The research and development activity provides for a multidisciplinary approach that lies on engineering skills that are supported by chemical, materials technology, physics and IT ones. In particular, the research focuses on
- Matching renewable energy sources to electrochemical energy storage systems
- Matching solar thermal energy to absorption systems (solar cooling)
- Smart building
- Smart cities
- Smart mobility
