In laboratories dedicated to electrochemical storage technologies, fundamental and applied research activities are carried out through chemical and engineering approaches. The activity covers many areas of the battery value chain from materials synthesis and manufacturing to cell and stack engineering to electrochemical testing. Research is directed toward optimization activities of more established technologies such as vanadium and lead-acid redox flow batteries and next-generation technologies such as sodium-based storage devices like Na-ion, Na-air, Na-metal-chloride, and organic/inorganic redox flow batteries.
