RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:
- Hydrogen Transport and Distribution: System modelling and simulation of the real-world natural gas distribution network in Palermo to conduct a techno-economic evaluation of the potential for utilizing hydrogen-blended natural gas from an urban perspective.
- Solar Cooling for Sunbelt Regions (IEA SHC Task 65): Conducted stakeholder surveys and literature review to compile a report analysing solar cooling systems, their selection criteria, and performance indicators for the Sunbelt region. Proposed design guidelines for implementation in diverse climates.
- Nearly Zero Energy Building in the Middle East: Compared the energy-saving potential of a house with energy-saving retrofits, renewable energy, and their combination against a standard villa in UAE. Observed augmented savings and CO2 emissions reduction with combined approaches.
- Solar Dish/Stirling Engine for UAE: Performed a numerical study using MATLAB® to analyse the performance of a solar dish/Stirling system in the UAE desert climate. Proven reliable year-round performance through technological and suitability analysis.
- Self-Powered Portable Solar Parabolic Thermal Distiller: Designed and built an experimental rig for a low-energy, economical tubular solar still. Awarded project funding for implementation.
- Natural Convection Indirect Solar Air Drying: Conducted theoretical and numerical studies using COMSOL Multiphysics to evaluate the performance and payback period of solar air-drying systems.
