Stanford University and Elsevier have released the 2026 edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, the ranking of the world’s most cited scientists. This year again, the list includes ten researchers who work or have worked at CNR-ITAE “Nicola Giordano” in Messina: eight in the career-long ranking and seven in the 2025 single-year ranking.
The ranking is based on Scopus bibliometric data, provided by Elsevier through the ICSR Lab. It sorts researchers into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields using the Science-Metrix classification. It ranks them with a composite indicator, the c-score, which combines citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted h-index and citations to papers as single, first or last author. The c-score is calculated with and without self-citations.
There are two rankings: one on career-long impact, with citations up to the end of 2025, and one on impact in 2025 alone.
