The transformation of the electricity sector and The role of intelligent distributed generation & storage

The energy market is rapidly changing and the main changes affect the relationship between production and consumption. In the past, energy production was distant from consumers both physically but also psychologically. Thanks to distributed generation and new technologies, the role of the consumer is becoming more and more proactive. In recent years, new actors have entered the energy market, such as the so-called “prosumers” and “Prosumagers” that bring together the roles of producer and consumer. At the same time, new local systems of production and distribution of energy, “peer-to-peer (P2P) trading”, are spreading in many countries. A question arises: what impact will all these transformations, which are creating new services and products, have on current distribution networks, the energy market, the economy and society?
This was the main topic of the seminar held at CNR ITAE by Dr Fereidoon P. Sioshansi, president of the Menlo Energy Economics, a consulting company based in San Francisco that has been operating for 35 years energy sector.
Dr Sioshansi worked for the Southern California Edison Co. (SCE), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Global Energy Decisions. He published 11 book, the most recent of which are:
